Sourdough Starter Guide
Thanks for purchasing my hydrated sourdough! It is named The Yeasty Boys, but feel free to name yours whatever you like (if at all). After receiving your starter, place immediately in the refrigerator.
You will need
- a glass jar with a lid. I like these that are available on Amazon or at Hobby Lobby https://a.co/d/05gAWapR
- Unbleached all purpose flour. Bleached will kill the wild yeast in the flour
The Night Before Baking
- Remove starter from the fridge
- Put in a larger glass container with a lid
- I do not use the cloth covers. They tend to create a film on top of the starter
- Add water and unbleached flour until it has a thick cake batter consistency.
- If you want direct measurements I would say about 1/2 cup of water and 3/4 cup flour added to your starter.
- Mark the glass with a dry erase marker where the top of your starter is currently.
The Day of Baking
- Once the starter has doubled (from the line you originally drew), then it is ready to use. This should be by the next morning. If not, feed once more without discarding.
- You can use your starter to make delicious bread.
